Make a Burger in Less Than 10 Seconds
In search for a way to pump up the entire team of the fast food chain’s employees, reduce the service time, and raise customer satisfaction — all without increasing expenses — Burger King came up with a contest that offers a grand prize to the employee who puts together everyone’s favorite burger in the shortest time and with the highest precision.

Challenge
Burger King approached Mercury Development for building a solution that would include two components: a tablet app for their employees to take part in the challenge, and a web admin dashboard for their managers to monitor the contest and select winners. The platform had to be ready in less than a month, to allow for proper testing and starting the contest on time.
Solution
The solution included a tablet app for employees to record a video of themselves making a burger, which included an onscreen timer. To make sure that the resulting videos are uploaded quickly and to cater for possible loss of internet connection, Mercury selected Amazon Web Services to securely store the videos and ensure that they can be easily accessed by contest managers. This way, it was easy to join the challenge and review the submissions, and both contestants and managers had a great experience.
Project Highlights
Compressed Timeline
The team had to design a solution that could be implemented within the set timeline: less than a month from the initial contact to the fully functional app. The deadline had to be met, because the dates of the contest had already been announced and could not be moved.
46272 Uploads
The solution architecture had to be able to handle high loads and a large number of concurrent uploads. Mercury selected Amazon Web Services to securely upload and store the videos, as well as to manage the workload.
Optimal Solution
Previously, holding a contest across a huge fast food chain was too complicated and required too much management effort. Mercury team came up with a solution that completely solved that business problem, and at a fraction of the cost.

The mobile application built by Mercury Development has significantly streamlined the process of organizing our annual employee challenge held across the entire country. In a very short time, the project team was able to create a convenient, quick and user-friendly product for the target audience. Our main objective for 2019 was to attract more participants and to eliminate printed materials — a complete migration to the digital format. All goals were achieved. We would especially like to note that communication was fast and efficient, and any arising issues were promptly resolved.
