Fitness Bank

FitnessBank is a new lifestyle bank servicing clients across the United States. Their mission is to provide increased interest rates to clients who live an active lifestyle, and we’re pleased to be a part of this idea’s implementation with our jointly developed mobile application — FitnessBank Step Tracker App.

Overview

The project idea was to improve the existing application, to make it more user-friendly, and to help users to track their daily and monthly average steps, compete in step challenges and interest groups, set and achieve goals, manage their StepBank, and ultimately raise their interest rate on a savings account. The FitnessBank Step Tracker App gathers users’ steps from Apple Health, Google Fit, Garmin, or Fitbit from several kinds of activities — so users step, run, swim, cycle, and roll, and reach their financial goals.

Challenge

FitnessBank came to Mercury Development with an already published first app version. As a result of the review, the Mercury team revealed potential room for enhancements in performance, stability, ease of use, and interface design.

First and foremost, our objective was to fix the issues that hindered the clients from using the application. When the application started to function more smoothly and easily, our team started the UI/UX improvement of the whole system including mobile and web admin applications.

Solution

As for the technical part, Mercury Development suggested continuing the app implementation with a cross-platform React Native framework to cover both Android and iOS platforms in order to provide great user experience and considerable cost savings through a shared codebase. As for the backend part, it has been decided to keep using PHP in order to stay consistent with previously approved solutions.
